Mumia Abu-Jamal is a political prisoner who has been incarcerated for over 25 years on death row because he was framed for the murder of a Philly cop. Essentially all aspects of his case have been blatantly mishandled and corrupt. From the failure to perform gun powder residue tests, keep evidence untainted, document with photos the scene etc. to the money accepted by judges of his case from the Fraternal Order of Police, to the racist jury selection, to the rampant police brutality and corruption Philly is famous for, Mumia has never had a fair trial. Mumia was a previous member of the BLack Panther Party, and obviously makes a good target for this reason. He is a person of color with dread locks- someone that the police are very interested in marketing as a bad guy. The Fraternal Order of Police has a lot of power in the judicial system and they campaign heavily to have Mumia executed.
I highly encourage you to watch Justice on Trial, a recent documentary on the case. Trailer: http://bignoisefilms.org/films/tactical-media/114-justice-on-trial

Mumia’s court date is tomorrow, November 9th. I am going to Philly to stand in solidarity with Mumia outside of the 3rd Circuit Court Building. At this court, Mumia will likely either be sentenced to life with no parole or execution. Neither of these are good options. Mumia’s life is on the line. An entirely injust system has kept him locked up for decades, constantly threatening his life and emotional health. Mumia has grandchildren he has never been allowed to touch.
