Why Is May Day Important to You?

14 Dec

Planning for the 2nd annual Richmond May Day Parade is already underway. If you missed the meeting last night, no worries, try and make the next meeting on January 10th at 7pm (after Food Not Bombs) in Studio 3 at Plant Zero on Southside. Or ask Kenneth Yates for more details etc.

I wanted to start thinking about why May Day is important to me, because I have a bad memory and forget details easily. I’m doing some research to remind myself. I would much rather celebrate holidays like May Day than ones like Christmas.

May Day is important to me because it is one of the few radical holidays we have. Continue reading

Please bring: Friends, money for stamps or stamps!

The Richmond Anarchist Black Cross is an autonomous Collective committed to prison abolition and prisoner support. As anarchists we are oppossed to all systems of oppression and repression and have concluded that prisons serve no positive function in society. New Richmond Radical News Site!!!!

14 Jan

Check out http://www.radicalrichmond.com for regional news, articles, pictures, events and opinion related to radical topics!!!!

We take submissions for posts!

This is a group to connect a lot of different people, movements, organizations, actions, events etc. in Richmond of the radical vein. We don’t have indymedia here anymore, but now we do have a new and developing tool- radicalrichmond.com a news/opinion/event blog about radical stuff in Richmond. Please check it out, let people know, spread the word, and if it gets big enough we can save eachother some time by using that site to share information.

I think that all of the projects that folks are working on will benefit by more networking and communication. It would be great to see what is going on with queer groups, with anarchist groups, with pro choice groups, with immigration issues, with homeless issues, with prison issues, with food issues, with local politics etc. All in one place. This project was started by Jeremy and Kontra, with Mo helping too. But now the project needs everyone.

HELP STOP VIRGINIA’S 103rd EXECUTION – February 19th, 2009

2009 does not need to be another banner year for Virginia Executions- we can all help stop them.

There will be a protest on Broad Street in Richmond on Thursday February 19th from 4-6 p.m. at the intersection of Broad and 11th (outside of the Governor’s office). Please come help show that Virginians are not for the Death Penalty. We will have some signs but feel free to bring your own. Bring your phones too so we can call the Governor’s office to ask him to stop the execution.

If the sentence is not commuted, there will also be a vigil outside of the prison where the execution is taking place that night. Details are at the bottom of this article.

Edward Nathaniel Bell is scheduled to be killed by the Commonwealth of Virginia at 9 p.m. on February 19th, 2009 for the shooting death of Sgt. Ricky L. Timbrook, 32, from the Winchester police Department during a late evening police chase on Oct. 29, 1999.

At a time when most of the country is turning away from the death penalty, Virginia has already scheduled her first execution of 2009. We are second only to Texas in the number of prisoners killed, and if this scheduled execution isn’t halted, Bell will be the 103rd person killed by the Commonwealth since 1977. Please take a few minutes to say “Enough!” and help us fix this broken system.

Please take one or more of the following actions – Details below: Continue reading
